Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! What a joyous time of year as we celebrate Jesus’ birthday! The children are all thrilled to experience cooler weather and to see the signs of Christmas around preschool! Thank you to Major Al Pichon for coming to visit with the kids about Veteran’s Day. We are looking forward to a visit from Captain’s Andy & Abby from the Salvation Army, they will be discussing the Red Kettles and play some Christmas songs for us.

Original Works Fundraiser

The Original Works fundraiser items should be in by the second week of December, or sooner. Thank you to those of you who ordered! Our school raised$439.50! We will use these monies to purchase new materials for the classrooms. Thank you again!

Hollywood Nights : Save the Date!

Mark your calendars for Sunday April 29th 5:30-8:30pm. This will be our fourth annual Hollywood Nights fundraiser. More information coming soon! We are still looking for event sponsors, volunteers to help with classroom art projects as well as donations for auction items. Please contact Brandee Miles at jonandbrandee@yahoo.com if you are interested in helping!

 

NAC Accreditation

Our preschool is working towards accreditation with NAC (National Accreditation Commission). We have completed our self study process and have recently submitted our site visit paperwork. Sometime after the holidays we will be visited by an NAC accessor for our site visit. We will not know the exact date of the visit, but will be given a two week window. We feel confident that our school meets all of the criteria to be accredited and look forward to our visit. We will keep the families informed of the outcome.  Please visit www.naccp.org for more information about NAC.

Christmas Program & Cookies with Santa

Our Christmas Program (for our 2-4 year old classes) is Thursday December 8th at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary. Please have your children in their classrooms at 6:15pm. We will also have Santa here for pictures and cookies for decorating (you should have received a flyer and payment form about this). We will still have our Christmas Cookies social, so  please feel free to bring your families favorite holiday treat. There will be crafts for the kids too. We hope to see you all there!

We play outside unless the wind chill is under 40 degrees, Please send a labeled jacket or sweater with your child each day as the weather gets cooler. 

Each child should have a labeled change of clothes in his/her backpack. Please make sure this clothing is weather appropriate.
 
Please remember to take all of your child’s things home over the Christmas break. All  nap mats should be laundered.

Last month we talked about Squirrels, Leave and Trees, Corn and Vegetables and Turkeys and Feathers. We have really enjoyed getting out of our classroom and taking walks! Some of our favorite songs/rhymes are: “Hey Diddle Diddle,” “ Two Little Apples,” and “Put Your Finger in the Air.” Our favorite books include: Belly Button Book, Things I Like to Eat and Ernie Follows his Nose. In December our themes include: Signs of Celebrations, Boxes and Gift wrap, Christmas Around Us and We Celebrate Christmas.

Text Box: Older Toddlers: Ms. Linda

November was a fun month full of pretty apples, dancing leaves, rolling pumpkins and grocery shopping. We loved exploring seeds and decorating pumpkins. We really had fun stuffing turkeys and trying to fit them into a microwave! Our favorite song was an action song, “Down, Down, Yellow and Brown.” Our favorite circle time activity was using our puppets to act out, “Can You Help Me?” Our favorite story was, Corduroy’s Thanksgiving. In December we look forward to learning about Bells and Celebrating Christmas. Please send your child’s “book to a friend.” the week of December 12th. Due to various schedules this will help make sure that each child receives their book from their friend. We will have a special snack of cookies and juice on December 19th and 20th.

Class Christmas Parties

Our three and four year old classes will have Christmas parties on December 19th & 20th. Your child’s teacher will post a sign up sheet outside the classroom with date/time and items needed.

Text Box: Christmas Book Exchange
Please bring a wrapped book (nothing over $7) made out “To: My Friend,” “From: your child’s name.” The teachers will exchange the books among the classrooms. This is for all ages and your teacher will send home information letting you know when you will need to send your books in. What a great way to celebrate Christmas and promote reading!

Older Infant/Young Toddlers: Ms. Lindsey & Ms. Jenny

enjoys music too! Our favorite song is, “If You’re Happy and You Know It!” Some of our favorite books include Cats and Dogs and Mother & Baby lap Books. In December we look forward to our Christmas units. Thank you all for your Thanksgiving basket donations and for taking time to conference with me about your little ones!

No December birthdays, but a few in January. Happy Birthday Parker (1/3), Chloe (1/6), Leo (1/13) and Alex (1/31). We hope you all have wonderful first birthdays!

During the month of November we were thankful! We talked about Fall, Food, Families, Feather and the letter F. The children harvested cranberries from the bog. On Election Day we voted for our favorite crackers. December is a time for celebrating Christmas and Hanukkah. We will play with various kinds of kid friendly Nativities, and celebrating baby Jesus’ birthday. We will also learn about Hanukkah celebrations: spinning dreidels, floating oil on water and counting golden coins. We will ear the fingerplay: “Twinkle, twinkle little star. Lead us to our Savior’s door. Shine so bright, shine so clear. Tell the whole world that He is here!” We will also read, The Stable Where Jesus was Born by Rhonda Gowler Greene. After the New year we will explore Winter, Groceries, Horses and Teddy Bears. May your holidays be filled with awe, joy, wonder and peace. Love, Wixson, Becky & Taylor!

In November our themes included: God Gives Us Families, Turkeys & Feathers, God Gives Me Eyes to See, God Gives Me Hands and God Gives Me Ears to Hear. We will be learning about Christmas throughout December. We have enjoyed learning to/practicing weaving, using colored ice cubes to paint, dipping cookie cutters in paint and printing with them, making collage pictures with a variety of materials and learning to use tweezers/tongs to pick up small objects. Some of our favorite songs are, “Twinkle, Twinkle” and “Oh What a Miracle am I.” Our favorite books are Llama Llama Misses Mama by Anna Dewdney and Carl’s Christmas by Alexandra Day. Thank you Sarah for volunteering in our class, it was wonderful for the children and very helpful for the teachers!  

In November we enjoyed making bread—each child added an ingredient. Then we ate it! We enjoyed making a collage of our families and loved talking about each member of our family.  We loved the Winnie the Pooh book about Healthy Habits during our unit on nutritious foods. In December we will discuss Kwanzaa, Hanukkah and Christmas and will enjoy celebrating Christmas at school! Our Christmas program will be fun and we are all looking forward to our Christmas party as well. I have enjoyed getting to know your children. They are quite a nice group. Thank you parents for coming to the conferences. I enjoyed meeting with all of you!

Three’s: Mrs. Lindsay & Mrs. Maria (M/W/F)

In November we learned about being thankful for Fall, Family, Home and Food. We made “We are Thankful books,” We built and filled baskets with food for the squirrels and birds in the school courtyard and we make pinecone turkeys! We enjoyed the rhymes: “Five Little Turkeys.” “Dingle Dangle Scarecrow,” and “Five Little Buns in the Baker Shop.” In December we look forward to learning about Celebrations: Advent, Kwanza, Hanukkah and Christmas. Thank you to all parent who participated in our Thanksgiving baskets. Also we are thankful for all our parents and for all they do during the school year! Merry Christmas to all and a Happy New Year from Ms. Lindsay & Ms. Maria!

Three’s: Mrs. Kelli & Mrs. Beth (T/Th)

In November we leaned about being thankful for our family, friends and food, we also learned about fall and counting our blessings. We enjoyed cooking rice crispy treats and creating potato print family pictures. We enjoyed singing “Autumn Leaves,” and “Itsy Bitsy Spider,” We liked the book Because a Little Bug went Kachoo. In December we look forward to learning about Christmas, Hanukkah and Kwanzaa. We have ornaments that went home for children to decorate and return for our class door. We can’t wait to see how different and special they all are!

We are learning special songs about Christmas and baby Jesus’ Birthday! Each class love songs about Santa too! What a joy and honor it is to work and play with your children every day! We hope to see all of our 2-4 year olds at the program December 8th at 6:30pm in the Sanctuary.

Spanish: Seńiora Piel

In November we talked about Fall, Familia (Family) and Comida (food) and Thanksgiving. We read the book Gracias the Thanksgiving Turkey and played “Pavo Bravo” our version of Turkey Bingo. We sang, “Te Amo Mama (mom), Papa (dad), hermano (brother), hermana (sister), abuelos (grandparents). We asked the question Quien est in la casa? (Who is in the house?). In December we will discuss Navidad (Christmas) in Mexico. We will read Too Many Tamales and taste tamales—delicioso (delicious)!

Four’s: Ms. Watson

In November we enjoyed learning about Milk & Bread, Families, and Counting Our Blessings. We loved tasting different breads and cheeses. We also enjoyed tasting pumpkin pie and the pumpkin pie filling on it’s own. We also loved having our guest speaker, Al Pichon, visit with us about being a pilot in the Air Force. Although it is December we still love “The Monster Mash!” We also like “Jesus Loves Me” and our letter J song. We also like to say our Kindness pledge. In December we will focus on the letters J, P and B and review our other letters, we will also learn about Kwanzaa , Hanukkah and Christmas. We will talk about what Jesus means to us and sing lots of Christmas songs. We are also looking forward to our Christmas party!  No birthdays this month.

 

Four’s: Mrs. Jenny (T/Th)

We enjoyed learning about the season of Fall, where bread and milk come from and talking about what we are thankful for, especially our families! We enjoyed all of our silly turkey songs and our color songs. As always we love singing our letter songs. The children enjoyed playing “What Floats?” The also loved making Stone Soup—thank you parents for supplying the ingredients! In December we will learn about Hanukkah, Kwanzaa and Christmas. We will continue to talk about how some things float and others don’t We will also learn about the letters S,D and J. We are looking forward to our Christmas program and party!

In November we learned about Food, Families, and Counting our Blessings. We did lots of graphing—our favorite types of apples, cheeses, etc. We did feather painting, thankful “hand” turkeys. We sampled canned pumpkin, many different types of breads and pumpkin pie! We made and sampled our Stone Soup. We loved the Bakery props in the home center! Our favorite books included: The Little Red Hen, Bread, Bread, Bread and The Turkey Ball. We are spending time during circle time each day focusing on the line leader’s name. We are learning so much about the alphabet and the sounds the letters make. We make a name puzzle for the leader and all day we “look” around the preschool for the letters. We are having so much fun being “letter detectives!” In December we will learn about Christmas , Hanukkah and Kwanzaa and the letters G,S,D & J.
